Sew & Tell Friday #13

TGIF!!!  Hope everyone had a great week.  This quilt top counts as my Sew and Tell Friday and a Finish It! project.

The three pieced blocks were hanging out in the orphan blocks basket.  I made them about five years ago when I first started quilting.  The block pattern was part of a BOM at my LQS.  The fabric is from The Pink Ribbon Signature Collection by Karen Neuburger for Quilting Treasures.

The original plan was to make a Breast Cancer Awareness Quilt, but I tired of the BOM patterns, so there it sat.  Until....

....a few weeks ago, when I noticed the butterflies in the original blocks and thought this Flutterby fabric by Tula Pink for MODA would be perfect!  I'm not sure if you can see the butterflies in the pink fabric on the left.  I received the extra Flutterby fabric when my Cosmo threads were not shipped in a timely manner.  I think the fabric is perfect for completing this project.

Here is the quilt top spread out.  You can't see the fabric detail, but there are two different Flutterby fabrics with butterflies.  I alternated them as background pieces.  This quilt picture is actually taken upside down.  My design is to have the three pieced blocks on the left going down vertically with the two bigger pieced fabrics on the right.

The above pieced block is bordered with one of the background fabrics.

This pieced block is bordered with the other background fabric.  You can really see the butterflies in this one!

This middle pieced block is bordered with both of the background fabrics.

I did another piece as you go design (surely that is a technical quilting term?) without a pattern.   I'm beginning to like this method.  Very modern, wouldn't you say?  I have decided to call this quilt Got  Pink?  rather than Think Pink.  Do you like it?

Speaking of modern, the newly created Orlando Modern Quilt Guild is looking for members.  If you, or anyone you know, are/is interested, you can either click here, post a comment on my blog or email me directly for more information.

I also completed three AAQI mini quilts this week.  If you haven't seen them and would like to, you can find them on the left under my Completed in 2010 button.
