“The solids I chose are shades of my favorite blue, with a neutral and two oranges thrown in, all representing sunny days in Florida. I think these colors are perfect for the graduation quilt I plan to make for my youngest who will soon attend college far from Florida and its warm climate. These bright colors remind me of vacations spent on Siesta Key with its cool sand, clear blue waters, and glorious sunsets, as well as lazy days spent lounging by the pool on orange chaise lounges.”
I challenged myself to use all 8 colors (no more..no less) in a single quilt block. I found this block in the Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. It's referred to as a Double Irish Chain, but to me it also has a courthouse steps thing going on ;-)) The squares finish at 1".
Playing around with the image, I came up with this layout of four squares. Kind of cool, right?!
I really like what happens when more blocks are added. Check out the secondary patterns created!
I don't know whether this is the pattern I will use for my daughter's graduation quilt, but I sure do love the idea. Did I mention how much I love these colors? The fabrics are nice to work with as well.
Now for the giveaway part:
