This and That

I'm almost too embarrassed to show a picture of the waverunner blocks I sewed.  But... I have this thing about including pictures on blog posts....and....it is what I worked on.  So, here are the first few waverunner blocks I made.  I am hoping practice makes perfect, and I have a chance to redeem myself with new and improved blocks soon.

With my daughter's quilt, I'm thinking a no piecing design.  I laid out a wide piece of Moda solid fabric....taped it down like I was going to baste it...pinned all the "diamond" cut outs in what I hope is a straight pattern.  My plan is to zig zag around each diamond....sew honey bun strips together for a border...find a cool green fabric for the backing (you can't tell, but there are green diamond fabrics)....and kick it up a notch with gorgeous quilting (not by me).

Do you think that will work?  I really need to do something about the lighting when I am photographing quilts.  The extra items you see are pin cushions....not extra fabric appliques ;-))  Also, the top and bottom will be trimmed to match proportions.  Have an amazing day!!!

  1. Rene', I love them both. The wave runner is so avant guardish...is that a word? lol It's vibrant and almost 3-D! Very cool.

The squares on point are my favorite though. What a neat idea and the colors are just so soft and pretty.

How neat of you to try something new (waverunner) and to put such a cool twist on an oldish looking pattern.

    Have a great day!

  2. Your waverunner is looking great! I'm going to start mine today since it's raining here. I'm no expert, but zig zagging around the diamonds should work fine. Have you considered raw edge applique for them? That has an interesting look a lot of times.

  3. The Waverunner is so cool! I love your color combo! Your daughter's quilt is gorgeous too. You've been busy!

  4. Those wave runner blocks are interesting...... ; ))

I like what you've come up with for your daughter's quilt. That's a clever way to make a top. I think I would have used that "steam a seam" stuff to "glue" the diamonds in place while I sewed them all down. Other than that, I think your really on to something, it should turn out really cute.

  5. The wave runner blocks are cool! I love your colors. They work really well together. I can't wait to see how you put them together as a quilt!

  6. I came over to see how your waverunner was doing. You have a good start! Are you stuck? let me know if I can help... the more you have the better it looks!
